The Queen Elizabeth Stadium is an indoor sport and recreation facility located on the Morrison Hill in the heart of Wan Chai, in Hong Kong Island. It was opened to the public in 1980 and boast of a 3,500-seat arena that can be used for sporting activities, recreational events and cultural functions.
Managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government, the stadium also features an expansive reception lobby, a VIP lounge, a multi-purpose hall, two function rooms, four committee rooms, three squash courts and a table-tennis playing area.
The arena, with a total floor area of 580 square metres, is a popular venue for cultural and entertainment programmes, sports competitions, conventions and ceremonies of any scale or nature. It is equipped with state of the art lighting and scoring systems and can be overlaid with wooden flooring or rubberized roll-outs to fit any event.
The tiered seating and retractable stand can be adjusted to offer spectators with the best vantage point when viewing classical concerts, entertainment shows, dance performances, theatrical productions, variety shows, conventions and ceremonial events. The close proximity between the stage and the spectator grandstand encourages rapport between performers and audience, creating a cozy ambiance ideal for family entertainment and interactive events.
The Queen Elizabeth Stadium's 567-square metre lobby can be used to stage exhibitions, fairs, receptions and other activities to complement the event held at the arena.
Two large function rooms, equipped with hand-rails and full-length mirrors, as well as a comprehensive range of sports and dance apparatus, provide space for athletes and performers to prepare before competing or performing.
An expandable multi-purpose hall is designed for games and sports training. It can transformed into 3 badminton courts or 1 basketball court or 4 fencing units that can be used for practices or non-spectator sport matches.
The sporting facilities, which include badminton courts, squash courts, table-tennis playing area, are available for public use at affordable rates. The facilities are well maintained and regularly upgraded with the latest equipment.
The Queen Elizabeth Stadium is located at 18 Oi Kwan Road, in Wan Chai. Opening hours are 9:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 5:45pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays). To get to the stadium, take MTR to Causeway Bay Station. Get out at Exit A and walk 600-650 meters along Matheson Street, Leighton Road and Morrison Hill Road.
