Located on the tranquil west shore of the Clear Water Bay peninsula, Clear Water Bay is a perfect escape from the city life. The landscape here is dominated by rough rock formations and wild scenery, a welcome treat to local and foreign tourists who are tired of the crowded cityscape.
The Clear Water Bay is home to two fantastic beaches: the Clear Water Bay 1st beach and the Clear Water Bay 2nd beach. Both beaches boast of fine white sand and clear water perfect for swimming. Because of their proximity to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island though, the beaches can get a bit crowded during the weekends. To get to the beaches, take the MTR to Choi Hung and then board bus No.91.
Other attractions in the area include the Clear Water Bay Country Park which features a very popular path for trekking. There are some difficult areas along the path but the spectacular panoramic views is all worth it. The trek goes straight down to the beaches, a perfect punctuation to an exhilarating walk.
After the tragic shark attack in 1995, shark nets were installed on both the 1st and 2nd beaches making them safe for swimming and other water activities. During the summer, both beaches have life guards on duty. Changing rooms, lockers, shower facilities, toilets and rafts are available at both beaches. BBQ area can only be found on the 1st beach, but there is kiosk serving cool drinks and sea food cooked in the local Cantonese style on the 2nd beach.
