Sneaker Street in Hong Kong is a popular street market in Hong Kong selling all sorts of sports shoes and athletic apparel. The market is located in Fa Yuen Street, the stretch between Argyle Street and Dundas Street in Mongkok, Kowloon, where you will find a wide variety of athletic footwear and sporting goods for all ages and genders.
Also called Sport Shoes Street, the name was derived from the extensive selection of sneakers from all the big brand names such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, and Converse, that are sold in the numerous stalls in the area. The market is popular among tourists looking for great deals and the younger set who are searching for the latest designs and limited-edition releases from their favorite brands.
The shoe shop boom in Fa Yuen started in the 70's after several shop owners in Nathan Road decided to transfer to a location with cheaper rents. The nearby Fa Yuen Street seemed an ideal spot because of it's proximity to the commercial area of Nathan Road as well as the two exclusive boys schools in the vicinity. With the schools' wealthy and fashion conscious students as a captured market, the sneaker shops became very success and many more stalls popped up.
Today, there are more than 50 shoe shops in Fa Yuen's 150-meter sneaker market where you can find the highest concentration of shops selling athletic footwear in the world. Whether buying affordable but fashionable sneakers or high end Jordan basketball shoes, shoppers are assured that they get the genuine deal. There are no "fakes" in Fa Yuen street when it comes to Sneakers.
Other nearby markets in the area are the Ladies Market (known for its wide selection of women's apparel and accessories) and Apliu Street (a hub for electronic devices and gadgets).
