The Flower Market is not a usual tourist destination in Hong Kong but it is a colorful addition to your itinerary when visiting the shopping streets of Kowloon. It is located in Flower Market Road, in the heart of Prince Edward, Kowloon.
The street features over 100 shops and wholesalers selling all kinds of cut flowers, potted auspicious houseplants, orchids, seeds and gardening supplies. Most stalls offer floral arrangements and bouquets for all occasions using the blooms of the season while some shops specialize in a particular kind of flowers such as orchids or roses.
The Flower Market has been the hub of Hong Kong's wholesale flower industry since the 1970s and became even more popular among locals after being exposed to the beauty of blooms and ornamental plants at the yearly Hong Kong Flower Show and Victoria Park Chinese New Year Fair which started in the late 1990s.
The market is usually uncrowded during ordinary days but tends to be busy on days leading up to Chinese New Year as locals look for auspicious flowers and plants to decorate their homes with.
Other popular shopping streets near Mong Kok's Flower Market include Apliu Street's Electronics Flea Market, Bird Street and Garden, Goldfish and Aquarium Market, Sneakers and Sports Shoe Street, Ladies Market, and Temple Street Night Market.
To get there, take MTR to Prince Edward Station, get out at Exit B1. Walk east along Prince Edward Road West until you reach the market. Alternatively, take MTR to Mong Kok East Station, leave at Exit C. Walk to Sai Yee Street via the footbridge and follow the signs.
