Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has announced May 17, 2013 as the official public opening date of Mystic Point, the latest and final addition to the theme park's HK$3.6-billion expansion plan approved in July 2009. It will be the seventh themed land in the premier tourist destination in Hong Kong and is said to be one of the most sophisticated attractions ever built by Disney.
Mystic Point is set in a dense, uncharted rain forest surrounded by mysterious forces and supernatural events. It's centerpiece is the early-1900's British mansion called Mystic Manor, a Haunted Mansion style attraction and home to eccentric world traveler and adventurer Lord Henry Mystic and his most trusted companion, a monkey called Albert.
The Mystic Manor's 32-car Mystic Magneto-Electric Carriage ride, employs the same trackless ride system developed at Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo Disneyland. Acclaimed composer Danny Elfman (of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas fame) was tapped to create the musical score for the ride.
The new themed land will feature new characters, state-of-the-art special effects and grand architecture that blend seamlessly with each other. It is already on its soft opening stage allowing selected Magic Access members to preview the new attractions. Apart from the Mystic Manor, Mystic Point includes other attractions such as the Explorer's Club Restaurant, Archive Shop, Garden of Wonders and Mystic Point Freight Depot.
Other themed areas in Hong Kong Disneyland are Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Toy Story Land and Grizzly Gulch. Each themed land feature unique rides, shops, restaurants and live entertainment. In his 2013-14 budget speech, Hong Kong financial secretary John Tsang hinted on plans to build another themed area in Hong Kong Disneyland featuring characters from the Marvel Universe.
Hong Kong Disneyland is located at Penny's Bay, Lantau Island, and is open from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm daily.
