Leung King Plaza is a newly renovated shopping mall in Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong. Formerly comprised of two non-air-conditioned structures with low occupancy rates and poor visitor traffic, the mall was transformed into a state-of-the-art shopping centre with eco-friendly features after its 2012 refurbishment.
The renovation project improved both the vertical and horizontal circulations within the mall by adding 13 escalators and strategically relocating various anchor shops to improve footfall and introduce a more diverse trade mix for shoppers. Shops, selling a variety of merchandise such as clothing, personal care, electronics, telecommunication and groceries, were also designated into specific zones for easier orientation. A food and beverage area was also established.
The improvements also included the revitalisation of public areas including the outdoor piazza and courtyard which now provide venues for leisure and cultural activities. Existing trees were preserved and timber decking were added to give the outdoor areas a more natural look. Planters add freshness while benches in landscaped areas provide shoppers some respite.
Energy-saving features were also incorporated into the design such as skylight which allow more natural light to come in as well as energy-efficient air-conditioning.
Today, the mall is a favorite destination not only among local residents but also visitors. Leung King Plaza is located at 31 Tin King Road, Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong.
