MegaBox is a massive shopping mall located in Enterprise Square Five, a premiere shopping and office complex in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. Living up to its name, this shopping destination is a humongous 19-storey box with a total floor area of 1,100,000 square feet, housing retail shops, dining establishments and entertainment facilities. It is dubbed as the largest shopping centre in Eastern Kowloon and the largest block plaza in Hong Kong.
With its exterior painted deep red (a lucky color for the Chinese) and a large glass orb on one side serving as a window to one of its multi-storey atriums, this structure is hard to miss. The "ball atrium" spans floors 5-10 and features the "Video Eye", a circular video screen 10 metres in diameter that gives shoppers updates on mall events and current news.
Similar to Hong Kong's other vertical malls, Megabox floors are divided into themed zones, connected by a system of long express escalators that skip floors. The four distinctive lifestyle-theme zones catering to shoppers’ individual tastes and needs are: IN-Style (fashion and apparel), Better HOME (furniture and home decor), FAMILY Circus (books, toys, sports & health, music, and electronics & gadgets) and EATertainment ( theme restaurants, international deli, ice-skating rink and movie theatres).
MegaBox also holds the distinction of being the only mall with an ice rink in Hong Kong. Located on the 10th floor, MegaIce, is a regulation hockey rink that meets international standards and offers spectacular views of the bay. Its UA theatre on the 11th floor is also the first commercial theatre in Hong Kong to feature the IMAX film display system.
The mall has an interesting "Park and Shop" feature. A total of 1,000 car parking slots are available in several floors of the mall that can be accessed via a series of express ramps.
MegaBox is located at 38 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay, the former site of the Kai tak Hong Kong Airport. It used to be an off-the-beaten-track destination for most tourists and catered mostly to the local population when it was first opened to the public. With the development of the area into a business and commercial hub, MegaBox is now a popular shopping destination for both locals and tourists.
The mall is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. It can be reached by taking MTR to Kowloon Bay Station, Exit A. Take the free shuttle bus or walk for approximately 10 minutes.
