Pok Fu Lam Road Cemetery - A Cemetery with a View in Hong Kong

Pok Fu Lam Road Cemetery - Hong KongThe Pok Fu Lam Road Cemetery is a private cemetery located on the western side of Hong Kong Island in Pok Fu Lam. It is operated by the Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union.

Built on terraces carved out of the side of a mountain like an amphitheater, the graves offer unobstructed views of Sandy Bay. The cemetery is divided into two sections, one above Victoria Road and another below Victoria Road. The section above Victoria Road contains grave sites and a columbarium with over 20,000 niches. The section below Victoria Road only consists of grave sites.

The Pok Fu Lam Road Cemetery is different from other cemeteries in Hong Kong because it incorporates both Christian and traditional Chinese burial practices. Feng shui elements and symbols of Christianity, such as crosses and angels, are visible on the graves. At the top of the cemetery is a fountain with a big crucifix overlooking the graves below as well as the ocean.

Prominent personalities buried at Pok Fu Lam Cemetery include Taiwanese literary scholar Xu Dishan, Chinese revolutionary leader and South China Morning Post publisher Tse Tsan-tai, musician-actor Ho Tai So and some of Hong Kong's most influential families.
