Pui O Beach is one of Hong Kong's most beautiful beaches. It is a popular respite from the city's hustle and bustle where visitors can relax and commune with nature. Nothing here will remind you of Hong Kong, no skyscrapers, no traffic, no noise!
Nestled at the edge of Lantau South Country Park in the southern part of Lantau Island, Pui O Beach features clear water and modest waves perfect for windsurfing and scuba diving. It's sand, a mixture of black and yellow, is soft enough to lay on to soak up some sun. Because of the gentle waves, Pui O Beach is ideal for families with small children.
The beach also offers spectacular views of the mountains of Lantau which surround it on three sides. There are also facilities for camping, showers, changing rooms, toilets, life guard stations and barbecue pits. There are also food establishments near the beach so you don't have to worry about getting hungry. It is also less crowded compared to other Hong Kong beaches. It is also less crowded compared to other Hong Kong beaches. A little difficult to reach, but well worth the effort if you are looking for some peace and quite.
Nearby is a marsh where water buffaloes love to hangout. It is said to be one of the few remaining areas where these creatures thrive in Hong Kong. These animals are a sure-fire hit among children!
The beach is also near the walled villages of Pui O where many historical buildings can be found. Many hiking trails also pass through Pui O including the Lantau Trail. Numerous village houses are available for renting in Pui O.
As with any other beaches in Hong Kong, water quality can be an issue at times and swimming can be risky. To be safe, check the water quality rating first before you go.
