Stanley Market is a popular day market in Stanley, a picturesque seaside resort on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island. It is located along Stanley New Street and Stanley Market Road and is popular among locals and tourists looking for better quality merchandise not usually offered in other markets in Hong Kong.
The market is comprised of hundred of shops selling all sorts of merchandise such as clothes, footwear, sportswear, jewellery, Chinese silk garments, paintings and artwork, toys and your usual Oriental souvenir items.
It is also popular for authentic designer brands but these are usually the imperfect ones that didn't pass quality control because of a crooked seam, lost buttons or other minor flaws. If you can live with these imperfections, Stanley market is a treasure trove for designer clothing brands sold at reasonable prices!
There are also outlet shops offering factory overruns and surplus stocks. The market is also the place to go when shopping for plus size clothing and footwear as most shops in other markets in Hong Kong only sell smaller Asian sizes.
The shops are lined along narrow alleyways so expect the market to be crowded expecially during weekends and public holidays. Just like in any other markets in Hong Kong, feel free to haggle, shop keepers always keep a calculator handy to negotiate with you on your bid.
There are numerous attractions in Stanly that are just a few steps away from the market. Along Stanly Bay's waterfront promenade and boardwalk are eateries and restaurants perfect for dining al fresco or hanging out after a day of shopping.
Other nearby tourist attractions are the Stanley Plaza shopping centre, Ma Hang Park, and the historic Murray House, former home of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum which has been relocated to the Central Pier 8. The Murray House is now home to a few fine restaurants.
Stanley is also home to two of Hong Kong's most popular beaches, the Main Beach and St. Stephens Beach.
